I received an instant (automated perhaps) reply from American Airlines (see previous post for details if you are that interested). And it goes a little like this:

Dear Schmuck:
Thank you for your recent email to our Executive Offices. I appreciate the opportunity to respond to your concerns.
From the comments in your email, it seems as if we need some improvement in the area of reservations. Our reservations agents should make every effort to provide our customers with correct information and I'm sorry we didn't do so when you called us and asked about the restrictions for utilizing your Fly Three Fly Free Certificate.
I've sent a copy of your email to the Managing Director of Reservations for follow-up with our reservations staff. I realize our apology does little to make up for the disappointment of not being able to utilize your certificate. Therefore, as a gesture of goodwill, I have posted 15,000 Customer Service Bonus miles to your AAdvantage® account. This mileage should be reflected in your account within 48 hours.
We truly appreciate your business, Schmuck. Thank you, for providing us with this opportunity to improve.
Sincerely,
American Airlines

I appreciate your attention to this matter, but have no need for the offered 15,000 miles. Please remove them from my account. This is not enough mileage to upgrade my existing tickets on my trip or purchase an additional ticket. Your offer does not extend the expiration on the Fly Free, Fly Free award, and does not refund the 50,0000 miles that I had to submit in order to complete my planned FREE trip. These are the ways that I requested you remedy the situation. As stated, 15,000 is useless and wasted.
Thank you
